DHAKA: Bir Pratik Noorjahan Kakon Bibi has died.

The freedom fighter breathed her last at Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital Wednesday night (March 21), said Dr Debrata Roy, deputy director of the hospital.

She was 103, said the physician.

She was admitted to the hospital with breathing problems on Monday evening (March 19). She was taken to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) afterwards.

Her family lives in Jirargaon village of Doarabazar in Sunamganj.

Kakon Bibi earlier suffered a minor heart attack and was hospitalized in July last year.

She fearlessly fought in the Liberation War of 1971 but was held and tortured by the Pakistani occupation forces afterwards.

In 1996, the government honored her with Bir Pratik, the fourth highest gallantry award in Bangladesh.
