SYLHET: An aide of Foyzur Rahman, who stabbed Professor Zafar Iqbal at a program in Sylhet, has been placed on a 7-day remand.
Judge Saifuzzaman Hiro of Sylhet chief metropolitan magistrate court remanded Foyzur’s aide Sohag Ahmed as the probe officer of the case and Jalalabad police station officer-in-charge (OC) Shafiqul Islam appealed for 7-day remand.
Sylhet Metropolitan Police Assistant Deputy Commissioner (prosecution) Amulya Kumar Roy confirmed the matter to Banglanews.
Sohang Ahmed, son of one Sadiqur Rahman, hailing from Haranagar area of Sunamganj, a cloth trader in profession, was detained by law enforcers from Kalibari area of on Sunday (March 18).
Probe officer of the case and Jalalabad police station officer-in-charge (OC) Shafiqul Islam said Sohag was detained based on information provided by Foyzur.
On March 3, Foyzur Rahman attacked Prof Iqbal with a knife at a program on SUST campus. He was caught by other students on the spot, then beaten up and handed over to police.
Later on March 8, he was placed on remand for 10 days. His father, mother and uncle are also in jail after completing different periods of remand. Foyzur’s brother Enamul Haque has also been placed on 8-day remand.
