RANGPUR: A Rangpur court on Sunday (March 18) sentenced seven persons to death in a case filed over killing a khadem of a shrine in Kaunia area in 2015.
All the convicts are members of banned militant outfit Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB).
Besides, six others were proven innocent and acquitted.
Judge Naresh Chandra Sarker of Rangpur special judge court announced the verdict Sunday (March 18).
A total of 13 persons were indicted in the case. Nine of them are in jail while the rest others absconding.
Khadem Rahmat Ali of a mazar sharif in Choitar mor area under Madhupur union in Kaunia upazila was found dead with throat-slit on the night of November 10, 2015.
The 60-year-old khadem was also a local leader of Awami League.
Police pressed charges against 13 persons over the killing on July 3, 2017.
