Demo staged for reformation of govt recruitment quota system

DHAKA: Job seekers across the country staged demonstrations on Sunday (February 25) demanding reformation of existing quota system in government jobs.

Aside from thousands of students from different universities of the country, Dhaka University students staged sit-in program in front of the Central Public Library in Shahbagh on Sunday morning.

Students of Chittagong, Barisal, Rajshahi and other universities also staged demonstration and human chain with the same demand.  

Presently in government recruitment process, 44 percent are recruited based on merit and the remaining 56 percent are allocated under a variety of quotas.

The job seekers are demonstrating with several points demand including reformation of the existing 56 percent quota and reducing it to 10 percent and recruitment of meritorious students in government jobs if eligible candidates are not found under the quota system.
