President seeks Singapore’s support for Rohingya repatriation

DHAKA: President M Abdul Hamid, who is now in Singapore for his medical health check, sought support of the Singapore government for safe repatriation of the Rohingyas. 

The President made the call when his Singapore counterpart Halimah Yacob talked to him over phone at 10:00 am (local time) on Friday (February 23). 

President's Press Secretary M Joynal Abedin said, "Both Presidents exchanged greetings over phone".

Halimah Yacob congratulated Abdul Hamid for being reelected as the President of Bangladesh for the second consecutive term.

President Hamid also congratulated Halimah for being elected as the Singapore's first female president.

About the upcoming visit of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to Singapore, he hoped that this visit would help reach the existing relations of Bangladesh and Singapore to a new height.

Earlier on Thursday (February 22), Abdul Hamid reached Singapore for medical checkup and scheduled to return home on February 27.
