11 foreigners held in Cox’s Bazar Rohingya camp The detained foreign nationals in police station

COX’S BAZAR: Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has detained 11 foreign nations for roaming around Rohingya camp without permission in Ukhia upazila of Cox’s Bazar on Friday (February 23).

They were detained from Rohingya relief center adjacent to Ukhia Degree College around 11:30am Friday. When law enforcers asked for identifiecation, they could not shoe any passport, visa or work permit.

Major Ruhul Amin, camp commander of RAB-7 in Cox’s Bazar, told Banglanews that of the detainees, two are from UK, two Italians and the rest seven are from Netherlands, Turkey, South Korea, Kenya, Brazil, Belgium and Norway. 

They were handed over to Ukhia police station, said Major Ruhul Amin.

Ukhia police station officer-in-charge (OC) Abul Khayer told Banglanews that the detainees are involved with Médecins Sans Frontières/Doctors Without Borders (MSF), an international medical humanitarian organization. 

However, they couldn’t show any legal documents. Their authority has been informed to contact at the police station with passport and visa, OC added.

When contacted, public relations officer of MSF Bangladesh office Sazzadur Rahman said he has been informed about the matter and contacting with concerned authority.
