Mentally disabled man lynched over suspicion of theft

MAGURA: A mentally challenged man was allegedly lynched by a mob in suspicion of theft in Saitrish area of Magura sadar upazila on Friday (February 23).

The deceased was identified as Kabir Hossain, 45, son of one late Abul Hossain of Aruakandi village. 

Deceased’s older brother Shiraj Hossain told Banglanews that Kabir had been suffering from mental illness for long time and also underwent treatment in Pabna mental hospital previously.

He was confined in a room but fled from house on Thursday noon (February 22). On Friday night, he went to one Lutfur Rahman’s house and beaten to death over theft suspicion, he added.

A local chairman Hiron Hossain also confirmed the matter to Banglanews. 

Magura sadar police station officer-in-charge (OC) Jaraf Ahmed said a case is being filed over the incident.
