DHAKA: The High Court hearing on the acceptance of appeal against the verdict of Zia Orphanage Trust graft case has begun around 12pm on Thursday (February 22).

The hearing is being taken place in the HC bench of justice M Enayetur Rahim and justice Md Shahidul Karim.

Earlier on Tuesday (February 20), the bench fixed the date for hearing. 

Khaleda Zia’s lawyer Barrister Kaysar Kamal placed the appeal (1676/2018) with the relevant branch of the High Court on Tuesday afternoon (February 20).

Lawyer advocate Abdur Rezak Khan is the filing lawyer of the appeal. He laid out 44 arguments.

On February 8, a special court in Dhaka sentenced five years imprisonment to BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia and ten years imprisonment to five others in Zia Orphanage Trust graft case. 
Khaleda Zia was sent to Dhaka central jail following the verdict.
