CHITTAGONG: Police detained two SSC examinees over shooting an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) in Sholoshahar area of Chittagong Friday afternoon (Feb 16).

The detainees are identified as—Rakib and Prottoy, Chittagong Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner (DC, North) Abdul Warish Khan told Banglanews Saturday (February 17).

However, the arms used in the shooting couldn’t be recovered, he said.  

On Friday, police nabbed another youth named Abdul Hakim, 19, over the incident.

The injured cop, identified as Abdul Malek, 38, ASI of Panchlaish police station, was shot by some motorcycle ridden miscreants while he was conducting search operation at the gate no.2 area of the police station, at around 4:00pm. The men immediately left the scene leaving him wounded.

“A group of youths were heading to commit a serious crime like murder. Therefore, they kept the motorcycle number plate covered. They fled away through opening fire and leaving the motorcycle while police gave them a signal to stop by”, DC Warish told Saturday.
