Attack at BGMEA building, workers assaulted, 25 injured

DHAKA: Workers of garments factory have allegedly attacked the building of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) in the city.

The incident took place at about 12:00 pm on Wednesday (January 31). The RMG workers, however, denied the allegation.

However, the workers of Asean Garments located at WAPDA road of Rampura in the city alleged that they came under attack by 10-12 youths, as the workers were holding sit-in program demanding payment of due salaries.

After incident, at least 25 workers went to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for treatment.

Later, the BGMEA building was vandalized allegedly by the workers. The RMG workers said that they were assaulted, but they did not vandalize the building.

Line iron-man of Asean Garments Mainuddin told Banglanews that they were staging demonstration protesting termination of a worker named Mamun, and demanding payment of due salaries. “Some 10-12 youths suddenly attacked us,” he said.
