Hearing on writ over CJ appointing adjourned

DHAKA: The High Court on Sunday (January 21) adjourned the Motion hearing on the writ petition seeking directives for appointing new Chief Justice.

An HC bench of Justice Jinat Ara and Justice Kazi Md Ijarul Haque passed the order, responding an appeal from the state seeking time.

The court adjourned the hearing till next Sunday (January 28) as the Attorney General sought time extension for one week, said lawyer Dr Md Yunus Ali Akanda, the petitioner.

The court earlier fixed January 21 for conducting the motion hearing on the writ.

However, keeping the post of the CJ vacant and not appointing a new one why won’t be declared unconstitutional, asked the writ.

Moreover, the writ petition sought a rule to be issued on why necessary instruction won’t be given asking to appoint a CJ and other justices from the lawyers as per the Article (95) of the constitution.
