DHAKA: An ailing elderly man was allegedly beaten to death after he complained about loud music played by another tenant of the house in Dhaka’s Wari area.

The deceased was identified as Nazmul Huq, 65, resident of a rented house-44 in Ram Krishna Mission road of Wari.

The incident took place around 11:00am on Friday (January 19). The body was sent to Sir Salimullah Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.

Deceased’s daughter-in-law Sadia Nasrin told Banglanews that Nazmul along with his family has been living in a seventh floor flat of the house and a man named Altab Hossain lives in the fourth floor.

On Thursday night (January 19), Altab hosted a ‘Gaye Halud’ party over his nephew Hridoy’s marriage on the roof while loud music was playing on. Sadia continues, “My father-in-law had gone through a Coronary artery bypass surgery few years back and fell ill recently.

Sadia alleged that the loud music from the roof made Nazmul more ill. At one point, her husband (Nazmul’s son) Nasimul went to the roof to complain.

Following the dispute on Friday morning, Altab and his relatives beat up Nazmul and his son Nasimul in front of the house. Nazmul became senseless from the mayhem. After he was rushed to a nearest hospital, the on-duty physician declared him dead around 12:30pm.

Wari police station officer-in-charge (investigation) Md Selim told Banglanews that the mayhem originally started centering the loud music playing. According to the video footage collected, Nazmul was beat up in the morning. The matter is being investigated. A case filing in this regard is underway.
