DHAKA: UN special rapporteur on human rights in Myanmar, Yanghee Lee is coming to Bangladesh on Thursday (January 18), to visit the Rohingya refugees.

Lee was earlier scheduled to go Myanmar in January to assess the state of human rights including reports of abuses against Rohingya Muslims in Rakhine State. The government of Myanmar then barred her from returning to the country and withdrew cooperation for the duration of her tenure.

Bangladesh Foreign Affairs Ministry sources said that Lee will stay here for seven days.

Earlier, she visited Bangladesh in February 2017.

Apart from visiting the displaced Myanmar nationals in Cox’s Bazar refugee camps, Lee is expected to hold meetings with Bangladesh Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali and Secretary M ShahiduL Haque.
