Bangladesh embassy in Tashkent celebrates Victory Day Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Bangladesh to Uzbekistan H.E. Mosud Mannan

DHAKA: Bangladesh Embassy in Tashkent celebrated the 46th Anniversary of Victory Day on 16 December, 2017 with due solemnity and fervor. 

Expatriate Bangladeshis living in Tashkent and the officers, members of staff of the Embassy, diplomats from several embassies, along with Uzbek dignitaries attended the event.

Programme of the Day started in the morning with the hoisting of National Flag at full mast by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Bangladesh to Uzbekistan H.E. Mosud Mannan, ndc at the Chancery premises followed by the laying of floral wreaths at the Portrait of Bangabandhu by Ambassadors of Bangladesh and India. Afterwards the guests were invited to the embassy auditorium where they observed one minute silence in memory of millions of martyrs, who sacrificed their lives for the Glorious Victory. 

At the beginning of the memorial meeting a documentary film on socio-economic development of Bangladesh was screened. Then Messages of the Hon’ble President of Bangladesh, Hon’ble Prime-Minister, Hon’ble Foreign Minister and Hon’ble State Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Government of the Republic of Bangladesh were read out by Ambassador Mosud Mannan, ndc and Counsellor Nripendra Chandra Debnath respectively. In their messages the Leaders highlighted the historic background and significance of the Victory day for the Bengali nation. This is the day when People of Bangladesh under the leadership of the Father of the Nation Sheikh Mujibur Rahman achieved Victory and Independence of Bangladesh through years of political struggle and nine months long War of Liberation. During this period three million lives were sacrificed and many were wounded or became disabled.At this point the children of Krishti  paid tribute to the seven Bir Sreshthas through presentation of flowers while music was played.

In his address Ambassador Mannan paid deepest homage to the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and recalled the sacrifices of the freedom fighters and martyrs of 1971 Liberation War as well as to the women who made supreme sacrifice for earning Independence of Bangladesh. He highlighted various economic, social and diplomatic achievements of the country during last 46 years since independence.  He also threw light about the aspiration of the present government including the “Vision 2021”. He expressed sincere gratitude to friendly countries, especially India and former Soviet Union (including Uzbekistan) who assisted Bangladesh during its Liberation War in 1971.

Engineer Golam Nabi as representative of the Bengali community in Tashkent shared his memories and feelings about the War of Liberation of 1971 with great emotion. Famous Uzbek Painter Lekhimi Ibrahim paid rich tribute to Bangabandhu and reminisced his memory about the Liberation War of Bangladesh in 1971 when he was a young University student. Master Shokhruh of Krishti Club of Bangladesh Embassy recited a Bengali poem composed by eminent Poet Shamsur Rahman. At the end Ambassador Mosud Mannan ndc distributed gifts to the children.

The 46th Victory Day was celebrated in a friendly, sincere and warm atmosphere, which made both invitees and Embassy Officials enjoy the celebration thoroughly.
Among others Ambassadors from India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam with diplomats from Korea and Afghanistan attended the event along with NRBs, journalists, writers, cultural personalities and mission officials. Finally, Bengali lunch was served among the invitees after the formal cutting of the specially made Victory Day Cake.
