HC summons AC land of Dinajpur

DHAKA: The High Court has summoned the assistant commissioner (AC- land) of Birganj upazila in Dinajpur, who was later stand-released, to appear before it on December 27 for sentencing a senior lawyer through mobile court.

The HC’s vacation bench of Justice Md Habibul Gani and Justice Kamrul Kader issued the suo moto rule on Sunday (December 17) after lawyers of Supreme Court Syed Mohidul Kabir and Kazi Helal Uddin Ahmed drew the attention of the court.

Biroda Rani, the AC-land, will have to appear before the HC bench on that day to explain her role in the incident.

On December 13, Biroda Rani, fined lawyer Binod Bihari, 60, a member of the Dinajpur Bar Association, Tk 500 and in default she sentenced him to one day jail over a feud regarding dealing a case at her office in Birganj.

Binod Bihari had gone to the land office to take part in the hearing of a case against his client Md Saheb Ali.

The incident at the Upazila Land Office of Birganj has triggered widespread rage among the lawyers in Dinajpur.

The assistant commissioner was stand-released. Later on December 14, she was transferred to Bhurungamari upazila in Kurigram, but she has not joined till now.
