DHAKA: Bangladesh government planned to finance seven billion US dollars in nature, forestry, and climate change sector in the next five years (2016-2021).
‘Country Investment Plan (CIP) for Environment, Forestry, and Climate Change,’ as the world's first national investment scheme, has been inaugurated in the city's Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel on Wednesday (December 13).
Compared to the other sectors of the country, sectors like environmental governance, pollution control and natural resource management, receive very low investment. For this reason, the huge initiative has been taken.
To ensure a healthy environment and combat climate change, the scheme was made by Ministry of Environment and Forest while technical assistance was given by Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of United Nations.
Planning Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal was the chief guest while Minister Anwar Hossain Manju of Environment of Forest Ministry was the special guest in the program. Residential representative of FAO David Dulan was present among others.
