DHAKA: Police started questioning the wife, mother and father-in-laws of Akayed Ullah, the suspect of New York subway bomb blast. 

The Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) detained them for questioning on Tuesday afternoon (Dec 12).

They are identified as Akayed Ullah’s Jannatul Ferdous Jui, her mother Mahfuza Akhter and father Julfiqar Haidar. Jannatul Ferdous Jui has been living with her six-month old son in a house in Dhaka’s Hazaribag area.

The caretaker of the house told Banglanews that Akayed and Jui got married in January 2016. Akayed went to US right after the marriage. Jui gave birth to her son on June 10. Later Akayed came to the country On Sep 18 and left for US on Oct 22.

CTTC additional deputy-commissioner Md Saiful Islam told Banglanews that the relatives are being questioned to find out more information about whether anyone else connected to Akayed is involved with militancy.

Earlier on Monday (Dec 11), At least four people were injured in a bomb blast in a corridor connecting the Times Square and Port Authority stations in New York city’s west side at 7:30am. Later police detained Akayed Ullah over the incident. He was also injured in the blast.
