Govt for Language Policy to ensure Bengali everywhere

DHAKA: Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor has told the Parliament that the government has taken the initiative for formulating the ‘Language Policy’ for use of Bengali in every sphere.

The minister said this while replying to question of ruling party MP M Abdul Latif during the question-answer session in the Parliament on Thursday (November 23).

Asaduzzaman Noor said that the current government has been playing vital role in favor of the mother tongue. Bangla Academy has been working the Bengali language.

In replying to another question placed by another ruling party MP Mostafizur Rahman, the Cultural Affairs Minister said that they have taken the initiative of establishing culture centre in every upazila in the country.

On February 17 in 2014, the High Court issued a ruling, asking the government why it should not be directed to take steps for implementing and ensuring the use of Bengali in every sphere soon.

The High Court had also ruled that all signboards, number plates of vehicles and the names of mass media should be written in Bengali everywhere.

On February 9 in 2011, a report of the Bangladesh Law Commission recommended that the government enforce use of Bangla in the judiciary.
