Mom, newborn die for ‘negligence’ of UZ health complex

LAXMIPUR: A new mother and her newborn child died at the Raypur Upazila Health Complex in Laxmipur on Wednesday (November 22) due to ‘negligence’ of nurses of the hospital.

The relatives of the deceased and the local people staged demonstration over the incident and geraoed the hospital demanding trial of the nurses. Later, police took the situation under control.  

The deceased mother was identified as Rozina, wife of Emran Hossain of Khaserhat area of the upazila. Rozina and her newborn died in the hospital in the early hours.

Nurses of the hospital Rehana Akhter and Nasia Akhter fled the area following the incident.

The family members of the deceased alleged that negligence of nurses led to the mother and her newborn child death. Rozina was admitted to the hospital on Tuesday (November 21). At that time, Rehana and Nasima pushed injection and gave tablet.

The relatives asked the nurses for operation. But they did not do it. Later, Rozina gave birth her newborn on Wednesday morning. The newborn died after birth.

Health and family welfare officer of the health complex Dr Baharul Alam said that they received the allegation of patient’s relatives. If negligence found, action will be taken against them, he said.
