China wants solution to Rohingya crisis, says minister

DHAKA: Chinese Minister for Foreign Affairs Wang Yi said that China too wants a peaceful solution to the Rohingya crisis, like many other countries.

The minister sat in a bilateral discussion with his Bangladesh counterpart AH Mahmood Ali, at state guest house Meghna Saturday (November 18).

Wang Yi is currently staying in Dhaka, on a 2-day official visit.   

He expressed satisfaction over the progress marked upon the pacts made during Xi Jinping’s Oct 2016 Dhaka visit, and the present status of Bangladesh-China ties.  

He assured of being stand beside Bangladesh, to cooperate Bangladesh for attaining its socio-economic development. He emphasized over increasing communication and cutting trade deficits short between the two countries.  

“China, as a friend of both Bangladesh and Myanmar, wants a peaceful solution to the Rohingya problem”, said Yi.

He emphasized over Bangladesh-Myanmar talks, in a bid to send the refugees back to their home in Myanmar. 

Bangladesh Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali said that his country wants China to support Bangladesh for repatriating the lakhs of Rohingya refugees to Myanmar.

However, Myanmar military operations caused more than 600,000 Rohingya refugees to flee to neighboring Bangladesh since late August.
