DHAKA: The UNESCO’s country director to Dhaka Beatrice Khaldun congratulated Bangladesh for recognition of Bangabandhu’s 7th March speech as, “The Documentary Evidence of the World Heritage.”
Beatrice Khaldun expressed her gratification in a rally organized under the banner Citizen Committee in city’s Suhrawardy Udyan on Saturday (November 18).
She said that the UNESCO is also proud for the recognition.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina also spoke at the rally with Professor Emeritus of Dhaka University Dr Anisuzzaman in the chair.
On October 30, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) recognized the historic March 7 Speech of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahamn as part of world's documentary heritage.
UNESCO Director General Irina Bokova announced the decision at the UNESCO Headquarters in Paris.
The speech delivered by Bangabandhu at the then Race Course Maidan, now the Suhrawardy Udyan, encouraged the Bangalees to start a struggle for independence from Pakistan.
