US to give $47 million for Rohingya refugees

The United States (UN) will provide an additional $47 million as humanitarian assistance for Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh.

US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson made the announcement in Nay Pyi Taw, the capital of Myanmar, on Wednesday (November 15).

This brings the total United States’ assistance in Bangladesh for the Rohingya crisis to $83 million since August 2017.

U.S. assistance goes to international organization partners on the ground, including the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF), and the World Food Program (WFP).

These organizations provide them with protection, emergency shelter, food and nutritional assistance, as well as health care and psychosocial support.

Secretary Tillerson said out of the 600,000 Rohingya refugees, most of them are women and children. US stands by Bangladesh on Rohingya issue.
