CJ Sinha’s leave ends Friday Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha

DHAKA: The official leave period of Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha, who is currently traveling abroad, is scheduled to end on Friday (Nov 10).

However, no information has been found yet about whether the Chief Justice will return home or will apply to extend his leave period.

In response to a query about whether the CJ will be counted as absent if he does not extend his leave period, Attorney General Mahbubey Alam said, “His leave time has not been over yet. Wait till 12:00am. The decision will be taken then.”
Earlier in October, Chief Justice Sinha had informed the president that he will be on leave from October 13 to November 10. He left Dhaka for Australia on October 13.

Meanwhile on Nov 5, Attorney General said, “SK Sinha taking charges of the Chief Justice after returning home from leave is a far-off matter. If other justices do not want to sit with him then how come will he do the job?”
According to several news reports, CJ Sinha went to Singapore from Australia for better treatment. On Friday morning, he left Singapore for Canada.

Earlier on Oct 2, the President appointed veteran Justice Md Abdul Wahab Mia as Acting Chief Justice due to SK Sinha’s leave.

However, before leaving Dhaka, Sinha had given a written statement to reporters.

On the next day, the Supreme Court termed Sinha’s statement to reporters as confusing and said, “President Hamid has submitted documents containing 11 specific allegations against CJ Sinha to five justices of the Appellate Division.”

Surendra Kumar Sinha was appointed as the chief justice on January 17, 2015, and his tenure will end on January 21, 2018.
