CHITTAGONG: A total of 3,03,316 Rohingya refugees in the Cox’s Bazar camps were registered till Thursday (October 26) under biometric registration system, in an initiative taken by Bangladesh government.

Bangladesh Department of Immigration and Passports is operating the registration work for the Rohingyas sheltered in Ukhia and Teknaf areas after fleeing persecution in Myanmar following an upsurge late August.

On Thursday, 11,736 refugees were registered in seven camps.

Earlier, the registration process began on September 11, on trial basis.

Personal information i.e. name, parents’ name, country, religion, gender including fingerprint and photograph were taken to complete the process.

However, Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commission-Cox’s Bazar (RRRC) reports that 6,05,000 Rohingyas entered Bangladesh since August 25 and the number is still growing.
