No more Bangladeshi-Rohingya marriage

DHAKA: The government has directed the marriage registrars of four districts (Cox’s Bazar, Rangamati, Bandarban, Chittagong) for not registering any marriage among Bangladeshi nationals and Rohingyas.

The law ministry on Wednesday (Oct 25) issued a gazette notification to this effect.

According to the notification, the marriage registrars of those four districts, in where Rohingyas have taken shelter, were ordered to examine the national identity cards of the bridegrooms and brides properly before conducting any marriage.

The new move came after allegations and reports were found on a sudden increase of marriage between Bangladeshi men and Rohingya women.

Hard actions will be taken against the marriage registrars who will defy the government order, the notification added.
