DHAKA: The Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) on Monday (Oct 23) arrested five officials including the DGM of Sonali Bank’s Noakhali branch in a case filed over misappropriating around Tk 1.97 crore.

The arrestees are- DGM of Kishoreganj Principal Office of Sonali Bank Limited Mir Abdul Latif, Superintendent Engineer of Sonali Bank Head Office Md Samshuddoha Nahad, Senior officer of Sonali Bank Noakhali Charabata Branch Zakir Ullah, Subarnachar branch SPO and manager Md Mostaq Ahmad Siddiqui and Feni Sadar Upazila Complex Section AOG Grade-2 (Cash) M. A-Rahman.

ACC deputy-director and public relations officer Pranab Kumar Bhattachariya confirmed the matter to Banglanews on Monday noon (Oct 23).

He said ACC assistant director of Noakhali district office arrested the bank officials from Maijdee area of Noakhali. Earlier on Apr 17 in 2016, ACC filed the money embezzling case against seven Sonali Bank officials. Five of them have been arrested.

According to ACC sources, they accused in connivance embezzled around Tk 1.97 crore from the Noakhali branch of Sonali Bank by creating fake bill to provide a made up loan.
