DHAKA: Bangladesh Petroleum Exploration and Production Company Ltd (Bapex) has discovered a reserve of natural gas near Shahbazpur in Bhola.

The matter was disclosed during the regular cabinet meeting led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in PMO on Monday (Oct 23).

After the meeting, cabinet secretary Mohammad Shafiul Alam told reporters that Bapex is working in Bhola. The new gas reservoir has been found beside Shahbazpur gas field. 

It is believed that the new field has around 700 billion cubic feet of gas. Both the fields might have had around one trillion cubic feet gas, he added.
