Verdict on ex-MP Aziz, 5 others any day

DHAKA: The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) will deliver its verdict any day in the war crimes case against six Gaibandha men, including former Jamaat-e-Islami MP Abu Saleh Mohammad Abdul Aziz Mia alias Ghoramara Aziz.

The three-member tribunal headed by Justice Md Shahinur Islam on Monday (October 23) concluded the trial after hearing closing statements by the prosecution and defense and kept its verdict pending (CAV).

The five other accused in the war crimes case are Md Ruhul Amin Manju, 61, Md Abdul Latif, 61, Abu Muslim Mohammad Ali, 59, Md Nazmul Huda, 60, and Md Abdur Rahim Mia, 62.

Md Abdul Latif is now in detention following arrest, but the rest accused are on the run.

The six were charged with genocide, killing, illegal confinement, looting, arson attack, torture and other crimes during Bangladesh War of Liberation in 1971. The offences were committed in Gaibandha Sadar and Sundarganj Upazilas.

Barrister Sayedul Huq Sumon and Haider Ali represented for the prosecution, while Gazi MH Tamim moved for the defense in the court.

Earlier on May 09, the ICT also kept the verdict on CAV. Later, the tribunal chairman Anwarul Haque died.
