DHAKA: Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj arrived here on a 2-day state visit to attend a session of India-Bangladesh Joint Consultant Commission (JCC).

The special flight carrying the Indian minister landed at Bangabandhu Airbase in Dhaka’s Kurmitola at around 1:30pm Sunday (October 22).  

Bangladesh Foreign Affairs Minister AH Mahmood Ali, Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Harsh Vardhan Shringla and some other higher officials welcomed Sushma. 

She will meet Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at Ganabhaban, at around 07:30pm Sunday. 

Earlier, at around 04:30pm, AH Mahmood Ali and Sushma Swaraj will lead the session of India-Bangladesh JCC, at Sonargaon hotel. 

Sushma will inaugurate the new Chancery building at Indian High Commission in Baridhara, on Monday morning (October 23).

She is expected to inaugurate 15 development projects here, funded by her country.

However, the visiting Indian minister is expected sit in a meeting with BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia on Sunday night, said the BNP chief’s press wing sources.

Sushma will leave Dhaka for home Monday (October 23), said the India embassy sources.

However, the India-Bangladesh JCC session will hold discussion on the issues of Teesta water sharing and Rohingya crisis.

Besides, decisions taken by Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Indian Prime Minsiter Narendra Modi on their latest respective visits to India and Bangladesh will also be discussed. 

Earlier, Sheikh Hasina made her India trip in April this year while Narendra Modi came here in June 2015.
