HC rule over hospitals’ negligence to pregnant woman

DHAKA: The High Court on Thursday (Oct 19) directed the authorities concerned to investigate the incidents of a pregnant woman reportedly refused to get admission in three government hospitals and also the death of the baby immediately after her delivery on road. 

The court also issued a rule asking authorities concerned to explain why action should not be taken against those responsible here and why the victim mother should not be compensated.

The bench of Justice Quazi Reza-Ul Hoque and Justice Mohammad Ullah issued the suo moto (voluntary) rule following reports published in news media.

The court asked to submit the probe report to the HC within 15 days and fixed Nov 5 for the next hearing of the case. 

Health secretary, inspector general of police, social welfare secretary, secretary of the women and children affairs ministry, director general of health department, director of Dhaka Medical College and Sir Salimullah Medical College, and superintendent of Azimpur Matrashadan have been made respondents to the rule.

The court also gave observations that the pregnant mother, Parvin, was not provided treatment reportedly for unable to pay TK 1,500. It is very regrettable and condemnable incident for the country.
