CJ Sinha’s wife flies to Australia

DHAKA: Sushma Sinha, the wife of Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha, left here for Australia three days after her husband’s departure for the same country.

She departed Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in a flight of Singapore Airlines at around 11:55pm Tuesday (October 17).

Earlier, the Chief Justice, who is currently on sick leave, flew to Australia Friday (October 13).

On October 1, he sent a letter to the president seeking leave for one month.

He was granted the leave till November 10.

He was facing sharp criticism from some senior ministers and Awami League leaders over the constitution’s 16th amendment verdict. Some of them even demanded his resignation accusing him of undermining parliament and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

However, prior to his leave for Australia, he claimed that he wasn’t suffering from any illness though earlier he showed the reason while seeking the leave.

Justice Md Abdul Wahhab Miah, the most senior judge of the Supreme Court after Justice Sinha, will carry out the CJ’s duties till November 10 or till the CJ rejoins office.
