CHITTAGONG: The death toll in the Rohingya boat capsize incident in Teknaf upazila of Cox’s Bazar rose to 10. 

Earlier, eight bodies were recovered from Naf River after a boat carrying Rohingya refugees fleeing Myanmar trying to enter Bangladesh capsized in Teknaf upazila of Cox’s Bazar on early Monday (Oct 16).

Moreover, 21 Rohingyas were rescued alive after the boat capsized near Dangarchar area of Shahpori Dwip in Teknaf. 

Confirming the matter to Banglanews, Teknaf police station officer-in-charge (OC) Mainuddin khan said the boat was carrying excessive passengers including men, women and children. A total of 10 bodies were recovered so far. Six of them are women and four are children.   

Local fishermen started the rescue operation at first followed by Coast guard. Death toll likely to rise, OC added.
