JHALOKATI: A district court has awarded life term imprisonment to a young man for killing a college girl at Nalchhiti upazila in Jhalokati in 2013.

Additional Judge of the District and Session Judge Court in Jhalokati Mohammad Bazlur Rahman derived the verdict on Thursday (October 12) in presence of the convict.  

The court also fined the convict Tk. 10,000, in default, three months more imprisonment.

The convict is Mehedi Hasan, son of Abdul Khalek of Timirkati village under Dopdopia union at Nalchhiti upazila.
    
According to the case statement, Sharmin Akhter, a third year student of Barisal BM College, came under attack by the convict on February 27 in 2013. She died on that day on the way to the hospital.

Before the incident, the convicted youth proposed Sharmin to marry.
