DHAKA: Two Myanmar journalists, who were earlier detained on charge of violating immigration policy, have been granted bail Friday (September 22).

The duo--Minzayar Oo and Hkun Lat—earlier arrived in Cox’s Bazar on tourist visa to cover the refugee crisis for Hamburg-based German magazine ‘Geo’.

They were released from the jail in the evening, as their bail appeals were granted at Cox’s Bazar Judicial Magistrate Court.

Earlier, on September 15, the court of Cox’s Bazar Senior Judicial Magistrate Rajib Kumar Deb rejected their pleas for bail.

Their lawyer Barrister Jyotirmoy Barua told Banglanews that he along with Cox’s Bazar Bar Association lawyers Advocate Ashish Barua and Advocate Mohiuddin Ahmed took part in the hearing at the court.

Cox’s Bazar District Additional Superintendent of Police Afzurul Haque Tutul told Banglanews that Minzayar and Hkun were staying in Cox’s Bazar after being released from jail Friday.

However, earlier, the duo were shown arrested on September 13 though the news of their detention spread on September 16.
