DHAKA: Gonojagoron Mancha spokesperson Imran H Sarker and activist Sanaton Malo Ullash were granted bail in a case filed over commenting offensive on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Earlier, they surrendered before the court of Dhaka Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Sheikh Samidul, responding arrest warrants.

Several lawyers including Advocate Prakash Biswas moved for the duo at the court, on Thursday (September 21).

The court granted their bail plea, upon hearing.

Golam Rabbani, Secretary for Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) Central Learning and Reading Circle Affairs also the plaintiff of the case, was also present.

On Wednesday (September 20), the same court issued arrest warrant against Imran and Sanaton as they failed to appear before it in the set date for attendance and moreover, avoided legal process. 

The case was filed over commenting derogatory while staging a rally protesting the removal of controversial idol of Lady Justice from the Supreme Court premise earlier this year. 

October 26, however, was fixed for hearing upon charge-framing in the case.

Golam Rabbani filed the case with Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court-Dhaka, on May 31.

Later, the case was shifted to the judge court.
