Man killed over ransom in Sirajganj

SIRAJGANJ: Miscreants hacked a young man to death over ransom money in Belkuchi upazila of Sirajganj on Wednesday (September 20).

The deceased was identified as Montosh Kumar Sarkar, 28, son of Mongla Sarkar from Khas Sonamukhi village of Bhanghabari union.

Police, however, detained two suspects over the murder.

The detainees were identified as--Sujon Kumar, son of Dewan Kumar from Kas Sonamukhi village, and Shipon, 32, son of Gias Uddin, from Bolorampur village under Kamarkhanda upazila. 

The deceased’s cousin Achinta Kumar Sarkar said that Montosh went to Shipon’s house accompanied by Sujon on Monday night (September 18), as they were planning to go on a picnic.

Later, at around 03:00am, an unidentified person phoned Krishna Kumar (deceased’s brother) asking for Tk2 lakhs as ransom money.  

The conversation over money transaction continued up to Tuesday morning (September 19) in phases, over phone.   

In the afternoon, a complaint was filed with police station over the incident.  

Belkuchi police station Sub-Inspector (SI) Abdul Alim told Banglanews that they nabbed Sujon and Shipon at the night.

Following information from the detainess, police recovered the body from Hurasagar river of Biswasbari village in Belkuchi upazila. 

Later, the body was sent to Sirajganj Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy, the SI said.
