DHAKA: Indian Minister for External Affairs Sushma Swaraj spoke with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, to inform that India stands beside Bangladesh in handling Rohingya crisis.

Nazrul Islam, deputy press secretary to the prime minister, told Banglanews that Sushma Swaraj talked with the prime minister over telephone at around 09:45pm Thursday (September 14), the same day India sent relief materials for Rohingya refuges in Bangladesh.

“India took same stance like of Bangladesh in the Rohingya issue. Sushma said that India will press Myanmar from bilateral and multilateral sides, to take back Rohingya refugees from Bangladesh”, said Nazrul islam.

India also wants the persecution upon the Rohingyas should end, said Nazrul quoting Sushma.

However, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina told Sushma that Bangladesh provided shelters for Rohingyas from humanitarian ground but it will trouble Bangladesh if they stay for a prolonged period.

Myanmar should accept Rohingyas as their nationals, she said to Sushma, added Nazrul.

Indian High commissioner to Bangladesh Harsha Vardhan Shringla, PM’s advisor Dr Gowher Rizvi and her chief secretary Dr Abdul Kamal Naser Chowdhury were present during the telephone conversation.
