2 of a family die of ‘food poisoning’ in Gazipur

GAZIPUR: Mystery shrouds the death of two minor brothers in Dakshin Salna area of Gazipur City Corporation.

The incident took place on Tuesday afternoon (Sep 12). Police initially suspect that both of them died of food poisoning. 

The deceased were identified as Humayun, 7 and 10-month-old Shakil, sons of Md Rafiqul Islam of Dariakanda Hafania area under Haluaghat police station of Mymensingh. 

Another person, Rubina, 12, daughter of Rafiqul Islam, is currently undergoing treatment at hospital. 

Rafiqul Islam lives with his family in a rented house of Dakshin Salna area of Gazipur. He is a construction worker. His wife Kohibur Begum works at a garment factory.

Deceased’s uncle Shahjahan Mia told Banglanews that the kids fell sick on Tuesday morning from what they suspect is eating a fish curry earlier at night. The suspicion came from a hunch that the fish smelled while it was cooked. 

Shakil fell sick at first and on-duty physician of Gazipur Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital declared him dead on arrival. Later Humayun and Rubina fell sick. Humayun died on way to hospital and Rubina is undergoing treatment, he added.       

Joydebpur police station officer-in-charge (OC) Md Aminul Islam told Banglanews that, on information, police recovered the bodies and sent them to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital for autopsy. The cause of death is still unknown.
