LAKSHMIPUR: Police have arrested the prime accused in Barguna school teacher gang-rape case from Ramgati upazila of Lakshmipur district.
 
The main accused, Sumon Biswas, son of one late Hiran Biswas, hailing from Kadamtala village of Betagi upazila, was arrested in a drive conducted by police early Wednesday which was disclosed on Friday (Aug 25).

Ramgati police station officer-in-charge (OC) Iqbal Hossain said, being tipped-off, police nabbed Sumon from his relative’s house at Charshita village in Ramgati upazila and later handed over to Barguna police.

Barguna District Superintendent of Police (SP) Bijoy Bosak in a press conference said the prime accused was detained with the help of Lakshmipur district police after police conducted raids in different places for six days.

Earlier on August 17, an assistant primary school teacher of Betagi upazila was allegedly gang raped by a gang of miscreants after they confined her husband in a classroom.

The victim filed a case with Betagi Police Station accusing six people.

The accused are- Sumon Biswas, 35, Md Russell, 24, Sumon Kazi, 30, Md. Rabiul, 18, Md. Hasan, 25 and Md Jewel, 30.
