Schoolboy drowns in Jatrabari

DHAKA: A school student was drowned while taking a dip in a canal in Konapara area of Jatrabari in Dhaka on Tuesday noon (Aug 22).

The deceased was identified as Naim, 14. He was a class nine student of a local Mannan High School.

Jatrabari police station sub-inspector (SI) Omar Farukh told Banglanews that the incident took place as Naim along with some of his classmates were bathing in a canal of Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA) adjacent to Katherpool area Golden Bridge. Locals called Fire Service after Naim could not be found. 

The diving team of Fire Service rescued him in a dumbfounded condition from the bottom of the canal around 4:00pm and rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) where on-duty physician declared him dead on arrival. The body is kept in hospital morgue, he added.
