NARAYANGANJ: Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) detained three members of Neo-JMB, an offshoot of banned militant outfit Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh from Rupganj and Bandar upazilas of Narayanganj.

The detainees were identified as—Abdur Rahman alias Sufian alias Rubel, 27 hailed from Keraniganj of Dhaka, Mohammad Imam Hossain alias Rashed alias Abu Umama al Bahiri, 26, hailed from Shahrasti upazila of Chandpur and Syed Raihan Ahmad alias Nasir, 30, hailed from Mymensingh Sadar upazila. 

RAB-11 said at a press briefing arranged in the noon that acting on tip-off they conducted drives from Monday evening (August 21) to early hours of Tuesday (August 22) and nabbed the three men belonged to JMB’s Sarwar-Tamim group.

A foreign pistol with three-round bullets, a machete, a knife, some jihadi books and leaflets were seized in the drives. 

RAB-11 In-Charge Lieutenant Col Quamrul Hasan said that the detainees were planning to carry out large-scale sabotage activities in different highways and Narayanganj.

However, the three were being interrogated, he added.
