CJ observation in 16th amendment verdict unacceptable: Law minister Anisul Haque delivering formal reaction of the government on 16th amendment verdict at secretariat.

DHAKA: Law Minister Anisul Huq said the observation of Chief Justice in the Supreme Court verdict that scrapped the 16th amendment of the constitution is unacceptable.

Anisul Haque delivered a formal reaction of the government on the 16th amendment verdict at a press briefing at the secretariat on Thursday morning (August 10).

However, he said the government has not yet taken any decision regarding the verdict.

“We will take initiative to expunge the objectionable and irrelevant part of the Chief Justice’s observations in the judgment. We are also thinking whether a review plea will be placed as we are aggrieved by the verdict.”

Mentioning Chief Justice’s remark in this matter as unacceptable, the law minister further said, “Although the opinions differ, we respect the court and the judiciary. But we are not in a power contest here even though it seems that judiciary is trying to strengthen its freedom through the verdict.”
