JHALOKATI: A court in Jhalokati has awarded death sentence to a man for killing and raping a woman at Rajapur upazila in the district in 2009.

Judge of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-2 of Jhalokati Moahmmad Bazlur Rahman delivered the verdict on Thursday (July 27).

The court also fined the convict Tk. 1, 00000. The convict is on the run.

The convict is Jahangir Hawlader, son of Mansur Hawlader of Charindrapasha village under Rajapur upazila in Jhalokati.

According to the case statement, a woman named Ankhi Begum of Badarpur village of the upazila was killed after rape at night on October 20 in 2009.

Victim’s mother filed a case in this connection. Later, police submitted charge-sheet against four people in the case.

The court awarded death sentence to Jahangir Hawlader and acquitted the rest three accused in the case.
