Two DCs withdrawn over UNO harassment

DHAKA: The government has withdrawn the deputy commissioner (DC) of Barguna, Bashirul Alam and DC of Barisal, Gazi Mohammad Saifuzzaman, for their failure to provide security to Barguna Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Gazi Tariq Salman.

On Monday (July 24), private TV channels broadcasted the news quoting Ministry of Public Administration source.

Earlier, a five-member committee was formed in the cabinet meeting to examine any breach of law regarding the issue of Tariq Salman.

Awami League Barisal district unit leader Obaidullah Saju filed a libel suit against Gazi Tariq Salman, UNO of Barguna Sadar and a former UNO of Barisal’s Agoiljhara upazila, for printing a ‘distorted’ portrait of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, painted by a child, on an invitation card.

This matter drew widespread criticism in social and news media. Awami League suspended its Barisal district unit leader Obaidullah Saju and the case was withdrawn. Moreover, six police personnel were withdrawn over the incident of harassing Barguna sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Gazi Salman Tariq.
