DHAKA: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina again vowed to eradicate illiteracy from the country in a bid to develop a society based on science and technology.
The premier was addressing a program on the occasion of handing over the results of Higher Secondary Certificates (HSC) and equivalents examinations for the year 2017, at Ganabhaban Sunday (July 23).
Citing that the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman nationalized the Primary education emphasizing the value of education, she said that her government also has been following the vision of Bangabandhu since it assumed power in 1996.
However, Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid and the chairmen of 10 education boards handed over the results of their respective boards to the Prime minister.
The combined pass rate of all the 10 education boards is 68.91 percent, and a total of 37,726 students obtained GPA-5 this year.
The Prime minister later talked to teachers, students, guardians, public representative and officials of the administration in Shariatpur and Lalmonirhat districts through videoconferencing on the occasion.
PM's Principal Secretary Dr Kamal Abdul Naser Chowdhury, Military Secretary Major General Mia Mohammad Joynul Abedin, Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim were present, while Education Secretary Sohrab Hossain conducted the function.
