BARISAL: The defamation case filed against Barguna Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Gazi Tariq Salman over publishing a portrait of Bangbandhu has finally been withdrawn.
Plaintiff of the case, suspended Barisal district unit Awami leader Obaidullah Saju pleaded to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court-Barisal for cancelling the lawsuit, on Sunday morning (July 23).

Gazi Tariq Salman, UNO of Barguna Sadar and a former UNO of Barisal’s Agoiljhara upazila, was earlier sued after he printed the portrait of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, painted by a child, on an invitation card.
This incident drew widespread criticism on social media.
Obaidullah Saju filed the defamation lawsuit against Tariq over publishing the invitation card imprinting the “distorted” photo of Bangabandhu.
Earlier, on Wednesday (June 17), Tariq was granted bail in the case by the same court
He was then summoned by the court in the case filed against him on June 7.
On Wednesday, Tariq appeared before the court and pleaded for bail in the case. He was sent to the jail as he could not provide necessary documents. Later, the necessary documents were submitted and the court granted him bail the same day.
