DHAKA: The Malaysian Immigration Department rescued 14 Bangladeshis from a human trafficking syndicate Friday (July 21).
Immigration police rescued the 14 people in a raid carried out in Ampang area in Kuala Lumpur, said the director-general of Immigration department Datuk Seri Mustafar Ali.
Besides, three suspected Bangladeshi agents were also detained in the raid, he said.
The suspected agents were allegedly responsible for managing the victims' arrivals and controlling the premises, he added.
On information, the law enforcers conducted the raid to nab the fraudsters in Ampang.
The Immigration Department officials seized 20 mobile phones belonging to the victims and cash of 28,500 Malaysian ringgits in the raid.
“After successfully entering the premises, the teams carried out an inspection and found that all the victims were placed in two rooms in a congested condition,” said Mustafar Ali in a statement.
However, Mustafar Ali said that they could gather information about more probable human trafficking syndicates after investigating the three detainees.
