BARISAL: Six police personnel posted at a Barisal court were withdrawn over the incident of harassing Barguna sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Gazi Salman Tariq.

They are—Sub-Inspector (SI) Niripen Das, Assistant Town Sub-Inspector (ATSI) Sachin Mahbub, Constable Jahangir, Hanif and Sukhen. 

Barisal Metropolitan Police (BMP) Assistant Police Commissioner Nasir Uddin Mallick told Banglanews on Saturday night (July 22) that the six police personnel were closed for administrative reasons.

However, police didn’t confirmed if  the six had been over enthusiastic in the incident of harassing the UNO.

Gazi Tariq Salman, UNO of Barguna Sadar and a former UNO of Barisal’s Agoiljhara upazila, was earlier sued after he printed the portrait of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, painted by a child, on an invitation card.

This incident drew wide spread criticism on social media.

Later, Awami League has temporarily suspended its Barisal district unit leader Obaidullah Saju who filed the defamation lawsuit against UNO Tariq Salman over publishing the invitation card imprinting the “distorted” photo of Bangabandhu.
