DHAKA: Students of Eden Mohila College staged a demonstration protesting against Thursday’s police action on DU-affiliated college students in Shahbagh and also demanding for publishing annual examination routine in city’s Azimpur area on Friday morning (July 21).

The students blocked the Azimpur Road with banners and festoons on Friday morning. With various slogans, they have demanded for reducing of session jam, immediate taking of annual examinations and publishing routine.

Protesting students told Banglanews that, after being affiliated with Dhaka University, they have been victim of tremendous session jam and irregular annual examinations.

Seeking anonymity, some students said that they are not even getting the fewer opportunities they used to get when Eden College was included under the National University.

Earlier on Thursday (July 20), the students of seven government colleges of Dhaka city, which were affiliated to the DU in February last, gathered in Shahbag to join a sit-in program demanding reducing of session jam, immediate taking of annual examinations and publishing routine.

Police surrounded the students from all sides so that they could not create any kind of chaos.

But, at one stage, police threw rubber bullets and tear shells when students tried to get out of their surroundings.

One Siddiqur Rahman, a student of Tejgaon College, was critically injured in the clash.

On Friday Shahbag police station Sub-Inspector (SI) M Mazhar Ali, as a plaintiff, filed a case accusing 1200 unidentified students on charge of obstructing police duty, carrying out attack upon them, attempt to murder and conducting terror activities.
