DHAKA: A case was filed accusing unidentified 1200 people over the clash between police and the students of seven colleges in Dhaka, at Shahbagh Thursday (July 20).  

Shahbagh Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) M Mazhar Ali, as a plaintiff, filed the case on charge of obstructing police duty, carrying out attack upon them, attempt to murder and conducting terror activities, said the police station’s Inspector (Probe) Jafor Ali Biswas.

Citing that 13 people who were detained during the clash Thursday but later released, the police inspector said on Friday (July 21) that they were released initially but will be accused in the same case if found their involvement in the attack. 

However, on Thursday, the students of seven government colleges of Dhaka city, which were affiliated to the DU in February last, gathered in Shahbag to join a sit-in program demanding reducing of session jam, immediate taking of annual examinations and publishing routine.

Police surrounded the students from all sides so that they could not create any kind of chaos.

But, at one stage, police threw rubber bullets and tear shells when students tried to get out of their surroundings.  

One Siddiqur Rahman, a student of Tejgaon College, was critically injured in the clash.

However, the seven colleges which are affiliated to DU are-- Dhaka College, Eden Mohila College, Government Shaheed Suhrawardy College, Kabi Nazrul Government College, Begum Badrunnessa Government Girls' College, Mirpur Government Bangla College and Government Titumir College.
